Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Is Failing

• Code accepted intermittently, or only when pressed firmly. The membrane or individual keys on BFT keypads wear unevenly; the contact surface under the button degrades first on the two or three keys used most. If your code contains a worn digit, the whole code fails.
• Keypad backlight on, but no response at the gate. This usually points to a broken or shorted 4-wire run between keypad and board, often at the underground splice near the gate hinge. We test continuity at both ends before condemning the keypad.
• Intercom audio is loud static, or one-way only. BFT intercom modules sit in the open on most gates, and Sugar Land’s heat plus morning condensation corrodes the speaker terminals and the microphone diaphragm over three to five years.
• Call button rings the house, but you can’t hear anyone at the gate. The speaker itself is often fine; the amplifier caps dry out first. We see this frequently on units installed before 2018 that have never been opened up.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check two things before calling: whether the 12V power at the keypad is present (a non-contact voltage tester from Home Depot will tell you), and whether visible wire nuts at the keypad back are corroded or loose. Beyond that, this gets into low-voltage board logic, and a wrong wiring guess on a BFT board can take out the receiver section and turn a $200 keypad replacement into a $600 board repair.
