Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Sugar Land Owner’s Guide

Most Elite keypad and intercom repairs in Sugar Land run between $225 and $485 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad face, the intercom board, or both. We keep the most common Elite SL-3000 and MiMo series parts on the truck, so a lot of these calls are same-day fixes. You’ll usually notice the problem when the keypad stops lighting up, a few buttons go dead, or the intercom still rings but you can’t hear anyone through the speaker.

This isn’t a page about convincing you to replace a working system. It’s about matching the exact part to your Elite model, pricing it before any tool comes out, and getting it installed without a second trip. If you’re reading this, something’s already failed. Let’s name it and price it.

Which Elite Models This Applies To

We service keypads and intercoms across the Elite line that’s common in Sugar Land neighborhoods like First Colony, Riverstone, and Greatwood. The models we see most often are the SL-3000 series slide-gate operators, the MiMo and MiMo II units, and the older CSW200 swing-gate boards. The keypad and intercom modules on these systems aren’t interchangeable between generations, which is the single biggest misdiagnosis we fix on second-opinion calls.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha: an SL-3000 keypad from 2015 will not talk to a 2021 board. Elite changed the wiring harness from a 6-pin to an 8-pin connector on later production runs. If you order the wrong one online, you’ll get a keypad that lights up but won’t send a command. We identify the part by the label on the inside of the keypad housing, not by the model number on the operator itself. That label tells us the production year and the connector type.

OEM Elite parts are solid, but they’re slow to ship. For most residential setups in Sugar Land, we offer both OEM and quality aftermarket equivalents from Viking or Linear that wire in cleanly and carry the same one-year workmanship coverage under our 365-Day Done Right Promise. The aftermarket option usually saves $60 to $90 per part and is what we’d put on our own gates.

One note for clarity: we’re an independent service provider. Vance Gate Repair Sugar Land isn’t affiliated with Elite, but we stock and install their parts, and we service seven other major brands as well, including LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls.

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

Signs Your Elite Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing
  • Intermittent button response. You press a digit and nothing happens, then it works ten minutes later. That’s almost always a worn membrane contact, not the board. In Sugar Land’s heat, the adhesive under the membrane breaks down and the pads shift. We replace the keypad face and it’s done.
  • Keypad lights up but the gate won’t move. This is a wiring issue, not the operator. We see loose terminations on the 6-pin and 8-pin connectors routinely, especially on gates that were installed before the soil settled and pulled the conduit. The fix is a rewire, not a new motor.
  • Intercom rings at the house but you can’t hear or speak. The speaker on the outdoor unit is usually blown from years of exposure. A replacement speaker runs about $60 in parts. If both the mic and speaker are dead, the board itself is the issue.
  • Keypad works but the display is faded or blank. The LCD backlight on older Elite units fails first, especially on west-facing gates that take direct afternoon sun. The keypad still functions, but you can’t see what you’re entering. We replace the display module without touching the operator.
  • One or two buttons require multiple presses. Water intrusion over years corrodes the individual pad contacts. This isn’t a cleaning issue. Once the coating on the PCB is compromised, the board needs replacement.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Sugar Land, here’s the price picture most Elite owners are looking at:

  • Keypad face or membrane replacement: $185 to $260 installed
  • Full keypad unit (OEM Elite): $310 to $410 installed
  • Full keypad unit (aftermarket equivalent): $240 to $330 installed
  • Intercom speaker or mic: $160 to $220 installed
  • Intercom board replacement: $340 to $485 installed

The range depends on a couple of things. Older SL-3000 models with the 6-pin connector take about 40 minutes to swap. Newer 8-pin units are faster. If we’re also dealing with a damaged conduit or wiring buried under a driveway that’s heaved from Sugar Land’s clay soil, the labor goes up, and we’ll tell you that before any work starts.

Every one of these prices is written down and handed to you before we start. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1. No “call for a quote.” No invoice that shows up bigger than the estimate. You sign off on the number, then we work.

You can safely check a few things. Is power reaching the keypad? Is there a tripped breaker on the gate’s dedicated circuit? Are the wires at the keypad visibly disconnected? A visual inspection costs you nothing. But the moment you’re opening the operator cabinet and probing terminals, you’re dealing with 24-volt control wiring and a moving gate that weighs several hundred pounds. If the gate cycles while your hand is in the cabinet, that’s a crush injury. We’ve seen it.

The honest recommendation for Elite keypad and intercom repairs in Sugar Land is to let someone who’s done this a few thousand times handle it. Adrian Vance grew up in Queens and learned access-control work on commercial sites before bringing that documentation habit into residential gates. His crew has been working Sugar Land long enough that we know exactly which communities are hardest on keypads, and we diagnose the problem right the first time most of the time. “Find it, price it, fix it - in that order.”
